Davis® Program

The purpose of this program is to empower children and adults who experience difficulties with reading, writing, math, language and attention. They gain a new understanding of their personal thinking and perceptual processes, learn self-help methods for controlling perception, as well as skills for eliminating confusions regarding language symbols.

The Davis Dyslexia Correction program is based on the finding that many individuals who exhibit dyslexia or learning disability symptoms have a natural ability to shift or alter their mental and physical perceptions. They can use this perceptual ability to facilitate creativity, improve physical performance, enhance thinking, or resolve confusions. However, when they attempt to use this same ability to resolve confusions regarding language symbols, it can cause unwanted perceptual distortions and noticeable disorientations that affect vision, hearing, balance, motor skills, time sense, and speech.

Individuals who possess and use this thinking style can be shown how to control their perceptions so disorientation no longer interferes with their ability to learn. During the Program, clients gain experience using this skill as they begin to clear up many of their basic confusions regarding letters, words, numbers, and other language symbols. They also learn to use special study skills uniquely adapted to their way of learning, thinking, and perceiving.

This program is not a substitute for other effective educational or therapeutic programs a person may need. Nor is it a cure for learning disabilities. What it does provide are knowledge and experience with self-help tools. When used, these tools will unlock a person's learning potential, as well as accelerate and enhance the effectiveness of other forms of assistance.

The Program Includes:

•Five consecutive days, one-to-one counseling, designed to fit the individual needs of each client.

•Interviews and assessments to determine strengths and program goal setting

•Training in how to use creativity as a learning tool to overcome individual and academic weakness.

•Training in self-help techniques for controlling perceptions and turning off disorientations.

•Study and reference skills

•Mastery skills for confusing letters, symbols, numbers, and words.

•Balance and coordination improvement.

•Speech and hearing skills.

Follow-up recommendations

•Spelling and handwriting improvement strategies

•Self awareness tools for reducing stress, and controlling energy levels.

•Three post-program review sessions (up to 2 hours each).

The first thing you should do is to read the book, The Gift of Dyslexia, by
Ronald D. Davis
. Reading this book will help you to decide if Davis is right
for you.

Secondly, you can email or call Ohio Dyslexia Correction Center to schedule a
Davis Assessment. This Assessment will determine if a client is a suitable
candidate for the program. The program itself is an intense, one-on-one,
one-week program.

Finally, if your Assessment is positive to continue, you may schedule a Davis
Program week. The program is conducted from Monday to Friday, from
10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. There are frequent breaks during the day and the client is free
from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. every day for lunch.

On the last day of the Program, there will be Support Training for the individual who will continue the ongoing work with Symbol Mastery® and helping the client to use the new Davis tools at home.

My son can read "balloon," but can't read "of" or "the."

I graduated from school, but no one knew how much I struggled just to get by. Memorization and regurgitation is not learning and that's what I did for twelve years.

I know my daughter is smart and talented, but she struggles with reading .

Why can't I remember what I read when I get to the bottom of the page?

I get a headache when I read.

My son's inability to read is starting to hurt his self-esteem.
